Jeremy Helan and Will Keane are big doubts for Sheffield Wednesday’s Yorkshire derby clash with Huddersfield Town this weekend.
Utility player Helan suffered a groin problem in the Owls’ 3-2 victory over Rotherham United before the international break while Keane, on loan from Manchester United until the end of the season, is still struggling with an ankle problem.
Stuart Gray, the Owls head coach, said: “Will [Keane] has just had a little bit of a setback. He’s got a bit of swelling in his ankle so we’ve had to pull him off the training pitch just to let that settle down.
“I don’t want to jump the gun. We will leave it as late as possible with Will and Jeremy [Helan].”
Kamil Zayatte (hamstring) and Sergiu Bus (groin) have resumed first-team training and are in contention to face the Terriers, who sit in 18th position in the Championship. Sam Hutchinson will also be available for selection after shrugging off a rib injury.
However, Gray has confirmed skipper Glenn Loovens remains on crutches and far away from making a first-team comeback following his ankle operation.
“He’s a million miles away from getting his boots on and being on the training pitch,” said Gray. “I’m not going to rush him back.”
Keiren Westwood, Stevie May and Jacques Maghoma have all returned from international duty unscathed.
