Sheffield Wednesday have completed the signing of attacking midfielder Marco Matias for an undisclosed fee from Primeira Liga side Nacional, subject to international clearance.
Matias, a graduate of Sporting Lisbon’s youth system, has penned a four-year deal, having notched 20 goals in 36 appearances last season as Nacional finished seventh in the Portuguese top tier.
Reports in Portugal today claimed that Wednesday have paid in the region of €3m (£2.2m) for the 26-year-old.
Matias only moved to Nacional in the summer of 2014, having plied his trade at Vitória Guimarães.
A former Portuguese Under-21 international, Matias enjoyed loan spells in his homeland with Varzim SC, CD Fatima and Real Sport Clube before switching to Primeira Liga outfit Vitoria Guimaraes in 2010.
The wide player becomes the Owls’ fourth summer signing, joining defenders Darryl Lachman, Vincent Sasso and Jack Hunt at Hillsborough.
