Captain Glenn Loovens is in a race against time to be ready for Sheffield Wednesday’s clash with bottom-of-the-table Blackpool on Boxing Day.
The Dutch centre-back was forced off in the second half of Saturday’s 4-0 defeat at Fulham after sustaining a hamstring problem.
Stuart Gray, the Owls head coach, said Loovens took no part in training today and admits he is “touch and go” to face Blackpool.
He said: “Glenn has not trained today. We are going to have to wait until the last minute.
“He will probably have a fitness test on the day of the game.”
Claude Dielna is on stand-by to fill in for Loovens, who is one booking away from a two-match suspension.
Wednesday will be without the services of injured quartet Sam Hutchinson, Giles Coke, Lewis Buxton and Kamil Zayatte.
