Sheffield Wednesday have today signed Manchester United striker Will Keane on loan until the end of the season.
Stockport-born Keane, a graduate of United’s youth system, becomes Owls’ second signing of the January transfer window, joining Chelsea youngster Lewis Baker at Hillsborough.
The 22-year-old’s arrival will bolster Wednesday’s attacking options. The South Yorkshire club are one of the lowest scorers in the Championship.
Keane said: “They (Wednesday) got in touch with Manchester United and said they wanted to take me on loan. It will benefit me getting some games.
“I want to help the team push on and help them get into the play-offs. Sheffield Wednesday is a massive club with a lot of history.”
Keane, an England Under-21 international, was an integral member of the United team who won the FA Youth Cup in 2011. His only senior United appearance came in December 2011, coming on as a second half substitute in their 3-2 home defeat to Blackburn Rovers.
A knee injury curtailed the talented youngster’s career at Old Trafford and Keane has found first-team opportunities hard to come by in recent years, leading to loan spells with Wigan Athletic and Queens Park Rangers last season. He failed to find the back of the net in 14 appearances for the two Championship clubs.
Keane will wear shirt number 48 could make his Owls debut against Birmingham City next Tuesday.
