Sheffield Wednesday: Owls begin training ground revamp

They have already upgraded their pitch and scoreboard at Hillsborough over the summer.

And now Sheffield Wednesday officials have switched their attentions to improving the club’s training ground facilities.

It is understood a significant six-figure sum will be spent on redeveloping their Middlewood Road complex over the coming months.

Work has started on the site, with the Owls’ inflatable air dome, which houses a synthetic pitch for indoor training, having been taken down. The dome, which was mainly used by the club’s academy, will be rebuilt, featuring a new ‘3G’ articifical pitch.

As part of the big revamp, some of the outside pitches have also been ripped up and will be relaid.

Shortly after rubber-stamping his takeover of the club last March, chairman Dejphon Chansiri stated his desire to give the club’s training ground a much-needed makeover. Chansiri is targeting promotion to the Premier League by 2017.
