Kieran Lee says his only intention was to remain at Sheffield Wednesday – despite being the subject of interest from other Championship clubs.

The midfielder yesterday signed a new two-year deal with the Owls, becoming the first of the club’s out-of-contract players to agree fresh terms.

And Lee said he had no intention of being anywhere else ther than Hillsborough next season.

“There were a few clubs, Championship clubs that showed some interest but I wanted to get a deal here,” Lee told the Star.

“I’m delighted to get this done. It was quite simple in the end.

“As soon as the end of the season came, I wanted to get something lined up quickly. I’m pleased it’s out of the way so I can start looking forward to next season.”

The 26-year-old hopes Jose Semedo, Chris Maguire, Glenn Loovens and Chris Kirkland quickly join him in signing new deals.

He said: “I really want all of the lads to stay.

“We’ll see what happens, but it’ll be great if we can keep as much of the group together as possible next season.

“One of the big reasons I wanted to stay was the group and the staff. Everyone loves playing here, and I think that showed over last season.

“The togetherness of the squad is great and the atmosphere in the dressing room is really good.

“It’s a squad that I’ve loved being a part of.

“And the fans have been great with me as well. It’s an exciting time at the club overall with us looking to kick on next season.”
