Semedo said: “We always want to do better than them (United). It would be great to go to the final.

“It has been a long time since Wednesday have been to Wembley. If it happened, it would be a special moment. We can make history.”

The 30-year-old, who is close pals with Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, cited Bradford City as an example of a lower league side stunning the Gunners. In the Bantams remarkable charge to the final in the 2012/13 season, they dumped out Arsenal in the last eight stage.

“We don’t go into the game thinking we will lose it,” he insisted. “That is not our nature.

“Our fans don’t allow us to think like that. Our fans demand us to win every game. It doesn’t matter who we play. They believe we can do something special.

“I saw Bradford beat Arsenal two years ago so that shows anything is possible. It will be an amazing moment for this club if we can beat Arsenal.”

Around 35,000 supporters will come to watch a repeat of the 1993 FA and League Cup finals and Semedo believes the Owls’ fans can make the difference.

“Arsenal are one of the best teams in the world and are in fantastic form,” he acknowledged. “Everybody has to be at their maximum and the occasion demands it.

“They (the fans) can be our extra man. I remember when we played Wycombe and Sheffield United at home that it was a big help and we will need them against Arsenal for sure.

“The fans want the best for us. The players are going to embrace the occasion. They are there to help us. The more that come, the better it us for us.”

Semedo says facing Arsenal will be one of the highlights of his career.

“I played against Manchester City but right now Arsenal are the form team in England,” said Semedo, who has featured seven times this term. “It will be a special occasion.

“For us as players, it might be the best team we have ever faced up to now.

“It’s special we have been drawn at home. Our fans deserve to see a big, big team at our ground.”
