Stevie May has been left out of the Scotland squad for their clashes against Qatar and the Republic of Ireland next month.
The Sheffield Wednesday striker, capped once by his country, has not been included in Gordon Strachan’s 26-man squad.
Since arriving from St Johnstone for an undisclosed fee, believed to be £800,000, last August, May registered only seven goals in 43 Owls appearances as Stuart Gray’s men secured a mid-table Championship finish.
Saints boss Tommy Wright said they recently contacted Wednesday about the possibility of recruiting May on loan for the 2015/16 season but were knocked back.
Strachan, meanwhile, has recalled Charlie Mulgrew despite the Celtic utility man having missed the last five and a half months with hamstring trouble, while Hoops team-mate Leigh Griffiths and Stoke’s Charlie Adam are also included.
Mulgrew made his return to action against St Johnstone on Friday night as he was given the second 45 minutes of the goalless draw in Perth.
Adam has not featured for his country since the Warsaw friendly with Poland in March last year, while Griffiths - Celtic’s top scorer with 19 goals this term - will hope to win his fifth cap, just under two years from his last in a Hampden World Cup qualifier with Belgium.
Griffiths will be competing with Steven Fletcher, Steven Naismith and Johnny Russell for a striking berth.
Strachan’s side face Qatar in a friendly on Friday 5 June before travelling to Dublin for the crucial Euro 2016 qualifier against the Republic of Ireland on June 13.
