Sheffield Wednesday: Opponents are targeting Owls star Fernando Forestieri, believes Carvalhal

Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal believes Championship opponents are singling out Fernando Forestieri for rough treatment, claiming the striker has over 20 bruises on his legs.

Since mid-February, Forestieri has been harshly sent off twice and yellow carded three times for simulation. His latest caution for diving came in Tuesday’s draw with MK Dons.

Carvalhal fears Forestieri may have to suffer a serious injury to get a refereeing decision go in his favour.

When asked if the situation will have a negative affect on the Owls’ 15-goal top-scorer mental state, Carvalhal said: “Absolutely zero.

“Fernando will do the same in the next game, because he is doing the correct things, not fake.

“They (opponents) are kicking him, we should take a photo of his legs, he has a lot of ‘medals’ there. There must be more than 20 kicks on his legs, you can see the marks.

“Do we wait until he breaks his leg before everybody says ‘oh it’s very serious, we must do something’?

“I am really worried about this situation. We don’t like to talk about this, but we must, because if we don’t maybe our fans think we are sleeping.”

Carvalhal is baffled why Forestieri keeps getting penalised for simulation.

“I have never seen anything like this before and I do not understand,” he said.
