Sheffield Wednesday: New arrival unfazed over price tag

New signing Fernando Forestieri is unconcerned at the expectations that have come with his hefty transfer fee.

Wednesday are thought to have splashed out £3m on capturing the striker, who is expected to make his debut at Burnley today, from Watford at the end of August.

The former Italy under-21 international has defended his decision to join the Owls over Leeds United, stating that he heard nothing from the West Yorkshire outfit regarding a possible transfer until after Wednesday had made their interest known.

“I don’t know if it’s good or bad I have a lot of pressure,” he told The Star. “It’s a good sign for Sheffield. I need to focus on what the coach wants on the pitch and that’s it.”

Forestieri insists the team comes before personal accolades as Carlos Carvalhal’s troops chase their first away victory since March.

He said: “It’s not me but 11 or 18 players. It’s not important if I score, the important thing is we win.”

Talented forward Forestieri is convinced Wednesday can do well this year.

“We have a lot of quality and every player is focused to do something big for this club,” he said. “We play a lot of games, Saturday to Tuesday, in the Championship, so it’s difficult. We must give 100 per cent. In this league, we need to be consistent. You win three games, you are up there, but you can also lose three games and be down at the bottom.”
