Wide man Ross Wallace is backing new signing Aiden McGeady to thrill Wednesday’s supporters after arriving on loan from Premier League Everton.

McGeady, who trained with his new teammates for the first time yesterday, is set to remain at Hillsborough until the end of the campaign.

The 29-year-old was the Owls’ only capture on transfer deadline day and is keen to shine in his attempts to force his way into the Republic of Ireland’s squad for this summer’s European Championships.

Wallace came through the ranks with McGeady at Celtic and believes he can add an extra dimension to their forward line.

“I’m delighted he’s come here,” he said. “Aiden will definitely get some goals and assists.

“I’m sure the fans will take to him right away. As soon as he is one v one with a defender on the edge of the box, that’s where he’s at his best and he can cause massive problems.”

McGeady has featured just once for Everton this season but Wallace reckons he could be plunged into action against third-placed Burnley tonight.

“He has kept himself in good shape,” said Wallace. “He’s a proper footballer who loves the game and trains hard.

“I know Aiden really well. We have got a real player on our hands. He’s an excellent addition. He will excite the fans.

“He looked sharp in training. If he is involved versus Burnley, you will see some real quality.”

McGeady is Wednesday’s fourth Premier League capture in the transfer market, following in the footsteps of Jack Hunt, Joe Bennett and Gary Hooper.

Rhoys Wiggins moved to Bournemouth while Sergiu Bus has agreed to join Italian side Salernitana on loan.
