Midfield maestro Lewis McGugan admits he is baffled by Sheffield Wednesday’s miserable run of form at Hillsborough.

Stuart Gray’s mid-table outfit have won just once in their own backyard in 2015, a 2-0 victory over automatic promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough last month.

Indeed, the Owls have racked up more than half of their 49 points away from Hillsborough.

Wednesday have scored a meagre 11 goals in front of their own supporters and triumphed on just four occasions, compared to eight on the road, in the Championship.

Buoyed by their 1-0 triumph at Blackpool, McGugan has called on the team to turnaround their poor home record, starting against fourth-from-bottom Fulham this weekend.

The three-goal midfielder, on loan from Watford until the end of the season, told The Star: “I can’t put my finger on why we have found it tough to get results at home. It is just one of those things that sometimes happens in football.

“We know we have got to be positive and each player has got to relax and showcase their talents and I’m sure we will put it right.

“We owe the fans a good run at home. Since my first spell and this one, the fans have been absolutely brilliant with me and it was a strong, strong reason why I wanted to come back. Hopefully we can repay the fans for their backing against Fulham.”
