Everton boss Roberto Martinez has today rubbished speculation linking them with Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Keiren Westwood.

Republic of Ireland international Westwood is reportedly on the radar of several Premier League clubs, having earned rave reviews since moving to Hillsborough last summer.

When asked about the Westwood link, Martinez, speaking at his pre-match press conference, said: “No, there is no truth in that one.

“I’m not going to speak about any player that is registered with another football club.

“We’re looking for a long-term addition for the goalkeeper position. It doesn’t have to be done in January.”

As chairman Milan Mandaric told The Star on Monday, Wednesday have no intention of selling their top stars.

Mandaric, who remains in dialogue with a Thai group over a possible £30m takeover, said: “We don’t want to sell any players. We are not selling a club.

“Our agenda is different. We want to take the club forward and without Keiren [Westwood] or Tom [Lees] it would be very difficult so I’m not interested in selling players.

“We have several quality players but they are happy here. They see the ambitions of the club and it will be difficult for them to go to a bigger club than us and there is a possibility to take this club to a higher level.”
