Sheffield Wednesday: Lees calls on Owls to bring in extra firepower

Defender Tom Lees hopes Sheffield Wednesday bring in reinforcements over the summer who can make a major difference in the final third.

Goals were at a premium for Stuart Gray’s side during the 2014/15 season. Only the three relegated clubs: Millwall, Wigan Athletic and Blackpool, scored fewer times than the Owls, who finished 13th in the Championship.

Wednesday’s inability to convert their chances saw them throw away many leads and points last year. That lack of composure and killer instinct is something Gray is determined to address and a new striker is at the top of his summer wish-list.

Lees, who played a key role in the Owls equalling a club-record 17 clean sheets in a league season, told The Star: “It will be interesting to see what happens in the summer.

“We (the players) will definitely be looking out to see what’s happening. Hopefully we can strengthen. I know there’s talk of improving some things off the field as well so, when we comeback for pre-season, we might be coming back to a new club and set-up. That would be good and if we’ve got some new additions that will be great as well.

“We’ve got some real quality in our team at the moment. We just need those match-winning, big players that maybe we have lacked this season.

“We need players who are at the top of their level and can make a big difference. We need to sign players who are going to add to us and give us that little bit more quality.”
