Jack Hunt claims Sheffield Wednesday’s forward line is as good as anything in the Championship.

The Owls have increased their attacking options over the summer, bringing in Scotland international Steven Fletcher.

The 29-year-old was given his first Wednesday run-out in their friendly draw at National League North side Alfreton Town in midweek. Fletcher looked sharp and will be competing with Fernando Forestieri, Gary Hooper, Lucas Joao and Atdhe Nuhiu for a starting berth this season.

“Our strikeforce is right up there with anything in the league,” Hunt told The Star. “We’ve got goal-scorers in our team. It’s up to us create them chances and hopefully they can stick them away.

“If you have got a couple of strikers who are firing, you’ve got a very good chance of going up.

“We could keep 30 odd clean sheets this season but it doesn’t mean we are going to get promoted. You’ve got to have 20-goal strikers to win games and we have got that.”

It is thought Wednesday pipped Championship rivals Norwich City to the signature of Fletcher, who boasts a wealth of experience, having represented Hibernian, Burnley, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Sunderland and Marseille (loan) in his career.

Hunt said: “Fletcher has settled in really well. He’s a very good addition for us and I think he will be top class for us this season.

“He’s another Scot who has come in as well...they are beginning to take over the place!”

Boss Carlos Carvalhal hopes Fletcher will be joined by more new arrivals sooner rather than later.

“We will receive more players in the future,” said Carvalhal.

“We must bring in the correct players to try and improve the team.”
