Goalkeeper Keiren Westwood has brushed aside reports linking him with a move to Liverpool, insisting he is happy at Sheffield Wednesday.

The 30-year-old has been a revelation since arriving on a free transfer from Premier League side Sunderland last summer, recording 11 clean sheets in 24 starts. He has produced a series of impressive performances to help the Owls move into the Championship’s top 10.

Speculation has mounted in recent weeks that Westwood is on Liverpool’s radar but the Republic of Ireland international has distanced himself from the transfer rumours regarding his future.

He told The Star: “I can’t comment on speculation.

“At the end of the day, people are always going to speculate.

“If it’s not me, it’s somebody else.

“I’m really happy to be here. I’m enjoyng my football and Sheffield Wednesday is a fantastic club to play for.”

Westwood is grateful to Wednesday for giving him the opportunity to play regular first-team football following three injury troubled years at Sunderland.

“I’m delighted with how things have gone and really happy to be playing football again,” said the star shot-stopper, who was watched on by Republic of Ireland assistant manager Roy Keane in their midweek win at Wigan Athletic.

“I had to kick-start my career again, which I think I have done and long may it continue.

“Sometimes things just fit.

“The fans have taken taken to me. I have taken to the club.

“I’m happy and have really enjoyed it.”
