Sheffield Wednesday: Hutchinson walking a disciplinary tightrope

Tough tackling midfielder Sam Hutchinson is a yellow card away from incurring a one-match suspension.

The former Chelsea trainee has chalked up four bookings in seven outings this season. Hutchinson has been cautioned against Ipswich Town, Reading, Leeds United and Burnley.

If the 26-year-old is to avoid a ban, he will have to be on his best behaviour until November 30, which is the cut-off date for five.

Hutchinson has been sent off three times in his Owls career. One of his dismissals came in Wednesday’s last meeting with tonight’s opponents Bolton Wanderers. Hutchinson received his marching orders for two bookable offences after coming on as a second half substitute in the Owls’ 2-1 home defeat.

Given Hutchinson’s injury track record, there is a possibility the Slough-born player maybe rested against Neil Lennon’s side.

Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal has plenty of options in the middle of the park, with Jose Semedo, Alex Lopez and Lewis McGugan all pressing hard for a starting berth. Eyebrows were raised at the omission of McGugan and right-back Jack Hunt from Saturday’s match-day squad.

With Carvalhal favouring a squad rotation policy, Marco Matias and Lucas Joao could also return as the Owls look to halt their five-match winless Championship run.
