Long-serving midfielder Jose Semedo says he is happy to act as a mentor to the squad’s growing Portuguese contingent.
Forward Marco Matias, snapped up from Nacional earlier this month, and midfielder Filipe Melo speak very little English. The duo are gradually improving their language skills but Semedo, entering his fifth season at Hillsborough, has confirmed he is willing to assist his compatriots to speed up the settling in process.
He said: “Marco [Matias] doesn’t speak very good English. When I first moved to England, I had no one to help me.
“But Marco has me and I can help him and Filipe [Melo] and anyone ask if they ask me.”
Speaking at Owls in the Park last weekend, the 30-year-old admitted the club’s “fantastic” and “amazing” supporters were a big factor in his decision to prolong his Wednesday stay.
After penning a new one-year deal last month, Semedo reiterated his desire to end his career at the Championship club.
