Sheffield Wednesday: Determined Madine aims to silence doubters

Gary Madine wants to silence his critics by proving he is good enough to play in the Championship as he edges ever nearer to joining Bolton Wanderers.

The striker, who notched 28 goals in 113 Wednesday appearances, is believed to have snubbed Blackpool’s contract offer in favour of a move to the Macron Stadium.

Madine, released by the Owls earlier this month, has undergone a medical at Bolton following talks with boss Neil Lennon to agree personal terms.

The 24-year-old, who spent the majority of last season on loan at Coventry City and Blackpool, described the final two years of his Owls stay as “bumpy” but is convinced he possesses the attributes to be a success in the second-tier of English football.

Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield, he said: ‘That’s what it’s all about for me; proving people wrong. I’ve had a bumpy two years and I just want to knuckle down and work as hard as I can.

“With a bit of luck I’ll get a good few starts in the Championship and I do go and shut some people up.”

Madine found the back of the net 18 times in Owls’ 2012 promotion-winning season.
