Sheffield Wednesday remain confident of prising Rhoys Wiggins away from Charlton Athletic as they seek to put the finishing touches to their squad before the start of the new Championship season.
Having underwent and passed a medical at the club’s Middlewood Road training ground last week, the left-back was expected to complete his proposed £750,000 move to Hillsborough.
But it is believed Wiggins, reportedly one of Charlton’s high earners, has yet to agree personal terms.
Nevertheless, the Owls have not given up on signing the 27-year-old, who has slipped down in the pecking order at The Valley.
Wednesday have yet to officially confirm the signing of Modou Sougou but the Senegalese international trained with his new teammates for the first time yesterday.
Sougou, 30, is a free agent, having been released by Olympique de Marseille on Tuesday. The winger, who can also be utilised as a striker, failed to impress at Marseille and has spent the last two seasons on loan at Evian.
Sougou will become the Owls’ tenth new recruit.
Wednesday’s Under-21s, consisting of a number of trialists, including ex-Stoke City youngster James Alabi, lost 3-2 to Aston Villa in a friendly yesterday.
