Sheffield Wednesday must be more aggressive in attack if they are to improve their home form this season.

That is the verdict of head coach Carlos Carvalhal who is plotting a change in recent fortunes at Hillsborough.

The Owls only suffered their first home defeat of the campaign against Middlesbrough prior to the international break.

But there is still some work to be done to alter a record which has seen them win just 24 of 72 home league games since returning to the Championship three years ago.

Carvalhal says he is pleased with the progress his side made over the first month of the season but expects better.

“We must be more aggressive in the attack,” he said.

“Against Reading we didn’t play too aggressively in attack and we must do better.

“We corrected this in the game against Leeds when we balanced the team to play short and long and showed more aggression.

“In the cup match with Oxford we did well but missed a lot of chances.

“And Middlesbrough, we did not start the game until the second half.

“We can lose but if we do we must lose fighting on the pitch.

“We must put energy into the attack. It helps when you have energy on the bench to give to the team. We have had more of this in the last two games and will have more after the break.”
