Head coach Carlos Carvalhal has spoken of his pride at four of his Owls players earning international call-ups, claiming it is good for the Championship club.
Keiren Westwood, Joe Wildsmith, Daniel Pudil and Lucas Joao are all in contention to represent their countries over the next fortnight.
While Carvalhal hopes the quartet return from international duty unscathed, the Portuguese believes the experience will benefit them.
“It is good for them and the club,” he told The Star. “It means we are improving our players. I am very pleased for Lucas [Joao] that he has been included Portugal’s senior squad for the first time and that Daniel [Pudil] is back in the Czech Republic national side.
“It’s good for Sheffield Wednesday because we are working to try to improve the team and help them be better players. I want the best for my players. If they go to their national teams, it means they are working very well and people are looking at them so it is fantastic.”
Having been included in the Republic of Ireland’s 30-man squad ahead of their European Championship 2016 play-off clash with Bosnia-Herzegovina, Westwood is pushing for a start while Wildsmith has been named in the England Under-21 squad for their forthcoming qualifiers with Bosnia and Switzerland.
