The Owls have recalled goalkeeper Cameron Dawson from his loan spell with Alfreton Town due to Joe Wildsmith’s injury.

Wildsmith suffered knee ligament damage while on duty with England U20s over the weekend and has been ruled out for six to eight weeks.

Dawson joined Alfreton on loan in August and saw his initial month extended by two more into November.

Saturday’s trip to Macclesfield Town would have been Dawson’s last for Alfreton but he has been recalled early after making 17 appearances for the Reds.

The 19-year-old hinted he would like to have extended his deal when speaking to the Star last week, saying he was enjoying playing week-in, week-out at this stage of his career.
