Striker Sergiu Bus believes Sheffield Wednesday have assembled a squad capable of challenging for promotion this season.
Carlos Carvalhal’s charges launch their Championship campaign with a Hillsborough tussle against league newcomers Bristol City a week on Saturday.
The Owls have captured eight new players over the summer and are closing in on Charlton Athletic defender Rhoys Wiggins as they continue to put the finishing touches to their first-team squad.
And Bus, recruited for a reported £375,000 from Bulgarian side CSKA Sofia last February, is convinced Wednesday have what it takes to be successful in the division.
“There have been a lot of new players come in so hopefully we will gell quickly,” he told The Star. “We have brought in quality and I hope we will make a good family and get results.
“Our target is to be in the play-offs at the end of the season. It’s a long road so we need to take things step by step and try to get a good result in every match.
“It would be a dream for me to help the team get promoted. It is the same for every player.
“It is, however, an easy thing to say but it is hard to achieve. We can’t look too far ahead. We have to concentrate and take each game as it comes.”
Wednesday go to League One Scunthorpe United tonight for their penultimate pre-season friendly. Carvalhal’s men have so far won just one of their four warm-up matches.
Goalkeeper Keiren Westwood (toe) is a minor doubt.
