Sheffield United youngster Louis Reed is looking forward to the new season under Nigel Adkins, after catching the eye with England’s U18 age group.

Reed was called up to the England squad after an impressive breakthrough season with United, which saw him make 32 appearances under Adkins’ predecessor Nigel Clough.

England enjoyed mixed fortunes in their two friendlies against Russia in Moscow, winning and losing one, and 17-year-old Reed reflected: “It went really well.

“We won the first game and I played the full 90 minutes, which was pleasing.

“The second game we dominated but lost 2-1 in the last minute.

“I played an hour of that, which was good considering I had already had a full game previously.

“My parents were there to see me play, which was special and again it was a fantastic experience and excellent for my development.

“It was my first trip away with England and it was different to playing here, with unfamiliar stadiums and foreign officials.

“All in all, it was a successful trip and another positive experience.”

Reed added: “I am pleased to have kept my place in the squad with England after my debut earlier in the season.

“And hopefully it will benefit me in pre-season back at United under a new manager when the hard work begins in the next couple of weeks.”
