Terry Kennedy has joined Cambridge United on loan until January.
The 21-year-old, who progressed through Sheffield United’s youth system before making his debut in 2011, could make his debut for the League Two club against Accrington Stanley this weekend.
Nigel Adkins, the United manager, recently hinted that Kennedy’s development would be best served by a “regular run of games” after seeing injury hamper his progress at Bramall Lane. But Adkins, speaking at his weekly media conference today, insisted those players allowed to depart on a temporary basis remain integral to his plans.
Shaun Derry, Adkins’ counterpart at Cambridge, said: “Terry has come from a very good football club, and I’m thankful to Nigel and his staff for making the loan achievable. He is a very commanding central defender which will put extra pressure on what we already have in that position. Like every player he will have to earn his place in the side, but the competition will certainly be fierce.”
