Jamie Murphy says Sheffield United can become the great entertainers of League One next season after endorsing Nigel Adkins’ attacking philosophy, writes James Shield.

The former Scotland under-21 international, who confirmed he knows “nothing” about speculation linking him with a move away from South Yorkshire, made the prediction after revealing the new manager’s tactical template has taken the shackles off Bramall Lane’s forward players.

“We want to score goals, win games and entertain the crowd,” Murphy told The Star. “When people come to watch us we want them to enjoy it and we can encourage them through the gates by playing exciting football.

“In the Premier League, the teams who get the biggest crowds are the most attractive to watch and we want exactly the same here.”

Billy Sharp, Conor Sammon and Martyn Woolford could make their competitive debuts when United begin the new season at Gillingham on Saturday.

“We’ve got a lot more attacking options now, yes,” Murphy added. “We’ve got goals in this team out wide, up-front and also in midfield.

“Obviously the manager has got his own ideas. Different tactics and different methods for games.

“I’ve enjoyed it with the new manager, the new staff and seeing all the boys again.”
