Nigel Clough, the Sheffield United manager, has congratulated Louis Reed on his call-up for the England under-18 squad which faces Switzerland later this month.
Neil Dewsnip, the Young Lions’ head coach, named Reed in the 20 man party scheduled to meet their European rivals in a behind-closed-doors fixture at St George’s Park before March 28th’s friendly in Walsall.
Clough told The Star: “Louis should be very proud of himself. We are certainly very proud of his as a football club.
“For him to get this recognition, so early in his career, is testament to the work he has put in and also the academy staff too.”
Reed, aged 17, is among four new players selected by Dewsnip with Fulham’s Magnus Norman, Luke Amos of Spurs and Middlesbrough’s Harry Chapman also featuring.
“Traditionally the Swiss youth teams are very competitive and they will be very well organised and hard to beat,” Dewsnip said. “We want to pit our wits against that and see if we can perform well and win both games.”
