Alex Kiwomya is expected to make his full debut for Crewe Alexandra at Bramall Lane tonight.
The centre-forward, on loan from Chelsea, scored one goal and created another when Steve Davis’ side beat Stevenage 2-1 last weekend.
Despite appearing to rule-out the possibility of making wholesale changes, Davis said: “You can look at it two ways, you can keep the same team and although they will be a bit fatigued, you can try and keep that momentum which is important at this stage of the season, or you could lose momentum with playing that team if you were to lose the game.”
Although Kiwomya will take part in the EFL Cup first round tie against Sheffield United, Callum Ainley is set to miss-out after being diagnosed with a groin problem following Saturday’s game. Ben Nugent missed the trip to Hertfordshire but has been cleared to play this evening.
“We’ve got a little groin problem with Callum after his appearance as a substitute at Stevenage,” Davis said. “He overstretched a little bit and won’t feature at Sheffield United as a precaution.
“Ben had a little niggle on the outside of his knee and didn’t travel to Stevenage, but he will be fine. I could’ve taken him down with us but because we haven’t he’s managed to spend some time with (physio) Rob (Sharp) and get that bit further forward than he would have done otherwise.”
“I want to keep everyone as fresh as possible,” Davis added, “And use the squad which is reasonably strong.”
