Sheffield United young players have been reassured the arrival of Billy Sharp and Conor Sammon will not stall their Bramall Lane careers, writes James Shield.
Nigel Adkins issued his pledge after vowing to provide “a pathway” for the likes of Diego De Girolamo and Dominic Calvert-Lewin to flourish next term.
With Sharp and Sammon joining from Leeds and Derby County respectively, competition for places in United’s attack will be fierce as Marc McNulty, Che Adams and Michael Higdon also look to impress.
“We are looking to build and keep moving forward,” Adkins said. “We need to take care of the here and now but also the future.
“Will give them the pathway, but we also need to make sure Sheffield United are winning games.
“We have to do everything we can to get out of the division. And we want to do it this season.”
“It’s about doing what’s best,” Adkins added. “And striking the right balance.
“It can be done, you can do both.”
