Shaw's relief as Tigers snap winless streak, striker has learned from departure

The Tigers boss said the win over Thackley meant a lot to the players and staff, as they ended a desperately poor run of form.

And it was a new sensation for Shaw.

He said: “It’s the first time in my career I have ever felt relieved to get a win.

“I’ve never had that feeling before.

“I don’t think I’ve ever lost four in a row before, so it was pretty huge on a personal note.”

The players’ reactions to the win gave Shaw optimism that they’ll continue to fight for points.

“For the players it was massive,” he said.

“When Andy Ofosu scored everyone was up, everyone celebrated and at the final whistle the lads showed they had been desperate to get the result.

“It showed me that they really care about the club.

“It made me believe in them all over again.

“The pitch was terrible, getting there through traffic wasn’t great, so it was a big sigh of relief.

“People behind the scenes and the staff work so hard, so we were trying to do it for them.”

Tigers travel to Barton Town Old Boys on Saturday hoping to pick up another victory, but may have to be without the services of two players.

“Mitch won’t make it, he’s struggling with his knee, Hadfield is struggling with a hamstring,” said Shaw.

“We might have Kyle Jordan back involved.”

“The way the lads ground it out on Tuesday, we’ll probably start with what we finished at Thackley, with maybe one change.”

And it’s likely that this week’s signing, the returning Dre Johnson, will feature again.

The manager is glad to have him back, and suggested the young striker had perhaps discovered that the grass isn’t always greener.

“Dre contacted me about coming back and I thought the time was right to see if he could make an impact.

“He fits the mould, he’s young and hungry to play.

“He probably didn’t make the right choice at the time, but he loves the club and loves playing for the supporters.

“I think he’s learned a little bit after what happened last year and wants to try and get things right.”
