Shaw wants Worksop to replicate Shaw Lane and Tadcaster's away day stubbornness, praises Harrison, bemoans rough treatment

The Tigers boss was happy to come away with a point from Albion Sports on Wednesday night, having been 1-0 down until injury time.

He says, rather than two points dropped, it was a point gained and a commendable trait that last year’s champions showed on their travels.

“I’m delighted to make sure we picked up a point. The conditions were terrible, it was a very bobbly pitch and we lost a player to injury.

“We’d probably have lost that game 2-0 last season.

“Shaw Lane last season, and Tadcaster, won home games comfortably and then made sure they didn’t lose away games, so to get a draw made it a worthwhile trip.”

He’s asking his players to ensure they get three points from the next two outings.

“We have to make sure we keep winning games, the games everyone looks at and thinks you could drop silly points from.

“I don’t think we’ve dropped many silly points, maybe at Retford when the conditions played a part.

“We have to keep winning games, and then win or not lose the big games, beat the Pontefracts and Garforths, make sure we’re better than last time against Tadcaster.

“I want to make it five games unbeaten on Saturday, hopefully in front of a big crowd, and then six next Wednesday, and just build.”

Wednesday’s trip to Albion Sports ended in Shaw having more complaints about the physicality meted out to his players.

“They should have had a player sent off for a very late tackle, after the whistle,” he said.

“Tom Elliott bore the brunt of a very high, late tackle.

“Referees have to stop this, they have to employ consistency, we don’t get protection.

“If we get beat like we did by Tadcaster, Handsworth and Clipstone, by playing football, then fine.”

Shaw, who is still seeking a striker, picked out Wednesday’s goalscorer for praise.

“I’m pleased for Callum Harrison, he had a good game last night and he’s getting into it a bit more now. I hope people saw his celebration, it meant a lot to him.

“He’s had a lot of criticism, some of it just, but in recent games he’s put a shift in.”
