Shaw lauds past and present players after Worksop exit is confirmed

A club statement released this afternoon simply said he was no longer employed by the club.

Shaw went on record yesterday to state his belief that he has been unfairly dismissed and plans to take legal action.

Despite an acrimonious departure, he takes fond memories from the club he led to the Northern Premier play-offs in his first season.

And players like Jack Muldoon, who has gone one to become an FA Cup hero at Lincoln, have been key to those memories.

He said: “The players I’ve had over the last three and a half years have been outstanding talents.

“Jack Muldoon is going to be playing at the Emirates next month, Craig Clay makes a living in the Scottish Premier, Tom Denton has won the Conference North and FA Trophy, Leon Mettam, Shane Clarke, Jon Stewart, Jake Scott, Tom Burgin have all gone on to play at higher levels.

“We got Luke Shiels back to where he belongs, Tom Elliott was the proof that if you work hard in football you get your rewards,

“And the players this season have provided some great support, knowing it’s been difficult for me, they’ve made my time a great memory and I can’t thank them enough.

“I feel like I’ve always had a delightful group to work with.”

Off the field, Shaw has enjoyed the support of some of the club’s stalwarts.

“People like Dickie Bromley, Keith Ilett and Chris Randall who have been there through the thick and thin of the club have been tremendously supportive,” he said.

“Paul Stacey (matchday secretary) has become an extremely close friend of mine and I’m going to miss him greatly.”

And he takes with him memories that he’s proud of.

“I’ll remember the community day when we played Retford at home and had all those kids lined up as the guard of honour, and our legends day was outstanding, seeing all those former players was awesome,” he said.

“I did the Three Peaks challenge and created a fund for money to go towards the ground.

“That first day at Armthorpe when we had all the fans singing and clapping, wearing the new shirts, it was a massive moment of pride.

“We all came together and built something, created foundations for the club to move on.”

Finally he thanked supporters, some of whom he didn’t enjoy the most positive of relationships.

“I won’t forget the support I’ve had, it’s been outstanding,” he said.

“On a whole the majority of supporters have been fantastic to me.

“Unfortunately we haven’t had a fair crack of the whip like the first season but I think we’ve all overachieved on and off the pitch.”
