Rouse hails attacking prowess of Worksop Town after Glossop win

Worksop Town came from behind to beat Glossop North End 5-1 at Sandy Lane on Tuesday night to put their penalty-loss woes from Saturday against Chester behind them.

Alfons Fosu-Mensah opened the scoring on four minutes for the visitors following a defensive mistake.

But the Tigers equalised on 25 minutes through Gavin Allott, who glanced home after great work from James Baxendale on the right.

Moments later, Jack Broadhead netted his second goal in as many games with a strike just inside the area before Allott made it 3-1.

Worksop’s second-half performance was a lot better, wrapping the game up with strikes from Luke Hinsley and Cody Cromack to go second in the table.

Assistant manager Craig Rouse believed that Worksop’s attacking prowess was too much for Glossop to handle on the night.

“I thought we were a little bit sloppy in the first 10-15 minutes of the game; whether the game on Saturday took a lot out of us or whether it was a mentality thing – I don’t know,” said Rouse.

“We didn’t come out of the blocks and we found ourselves behind and when you do that against a side in our league then you leave yourself with a mountain to climb; thankfully we have the players and the quality in that dressing room to be able to go and dig results out.

“We weren’t content with sitting on a 3-1 scoreline, we wanted to kick on and score more goals.

"I felt like the attacking outlet that we produced in the first half would have hurt them more in the second [half] and it has finished 5-1, but it could easily have been six, seven or eight.”
