The sides played out a goalless draw as Gillingham ended their run of five straight defeats.

Lewis Grabban thought he had scored until officials ruled he had handled the ball in the build up to the goal.

Manager Andy Scott said he was ‘disappointed’ with the result as his team were the better side in the second half.

“But our play was terrific at times and we passed the ball very well second half. We coped with their formation and they were always going to come out fast at us.”

“They had to perform. They’ve been under a lot of pressure. They’ve not been getting the results they wanted and we know how hard that and always knew it was going to be a tight one,” said Scott.

In reality the manager is right to criticise the team for the draw, as it is a game they should have won.

Playing against a team that have lost five matches in a row should mean you are looking to add to the side’s misery and not give them any chances to get back on form.

Millers need to be merciless against these teams who are having a poor spell.

The attacking quality the team had with a front line of Alex Revell and Shaun Harrard, supported in midfield by Grabban meant there should have been goals in the side.

It is possible they thought the match was going to be too easy, but it should have been apparent this wasn’t the case at half-time when they still were not winning.

The Millers had a spell earlier this season when they didn’t find a win for 10 matches in a row, when the opposition came to Don Valley Stadium and bossed the game, not giving them any chances.

Scott’s men need to learn how to kick a team when they’re down and take advantage of those who are performing badly.

This Saturday they face Bristol Rovers at home and Rovers haven’t had a result in their last two games.

Rotherham United need to make sure they get in front early and give the fans something to shout about.
