Rinky coming ‘home’ for Christmas

The former player, coach and boss of Worksop Town departed 14 months ago after his relationship with chairman Jason Clark broke down.

And looking ahead to the festive fixture at Sandy Lane on Monday he told the Guardian: “I think I’ll get a good welcome from quite a few people.”

“The people who will give me stick are the people who couldn’t find Ilkeston with a sat nav.”

“I’m proud of the fact that Worksop are doing well in the Evo-Stik Premier, many teams would have gone down when no one was getting paid – but we didn’t.”

“People have short memories though.”

Rinkcavage only managed Tigers at Sandy Lane for one season, before the club was forced into exile, so he’s looking forward to finally returning to the ground.

“It’s four years since I took a team there, it will be good to be back,” he said.

“It’s a big shame I didn’t spend more time there.”

“Worksop are the form side in the league, they’re doing really well, it will be a tough game.”

His Frickley side is likely to contain Ben Turner, who recently departed Worksop having signed in the summer.

Rinkcavage added: “Ben has been superb for me on the left, along with Ryan Mallon.”

“We’ve got a decent side, our results don’t reflect how well we’re playing.”
