Redlands and St Swithun’s take advantage

Redlands and St Swithun’s took full advantage of a prompt start to the second-half of the season, beating both the opposition and the oncoming bad weather with victories that took them to the top of their respective divisions.

Redlands, runaway winners over St John’s at the beginning of the season, squeezed out a much closer 3-2 win in the return match with their hero being Tom McIntosh whose hat-trick clinched the points that took his team to the top of Division One.

Bobby George and Bradley Charlesworth replied for St John’s making Redlands work hard to the end.

St Swithun’s reversed an early season rout by Blyth when a Hayden Fox double and a third goal from Cameron Dickson were too much for Blyth, whose lone reply came from Archie Lewis, and took them to the top spot in Division Seven.

Sturton-le-Steeple were also among the early starters when Charlie Hudson (3), George Hudson, Chris Robinson and Josh Storey produced the goals that defeated StPatrick’s and cemented their second place in Division Eight while league newcomers, Harby earned their first points of the season with a single goal success against Rampton.

Disappointment for Bassetlaw Boys when their annual visit to the City of Gloucester fell victim to the weather depriving them of the opportunity to extend their hundred per cent record.

Arrangements for the coming week are on hold until the weather prospects become clearer.

Bassetlaw Schools join with the rest of the football community in expressing their sympathy with the family of their loyal friend and referee Keith Goulding, after his sudden death last week.
