Recently flooded Tadcaster Albion ground to be inspected ahead of visit of NCEL Premier leaders worksop Town

The i2i Stadium, which was badly flooded recently, will be inspected tomorrow – and if declared unfit, the vital clash between the two promotion hopefuls will take place elsewhere.

Concerns have been raised over the suitability of the pitch, with regards to health and safety issues, after flood water and overflowing sewage caused more than £250,000 of damage to the ground.

The presence of contaminated sewage was the reason for much of the damage to the clubhouse, but being on the pitch also caused issues.

League secretary treasurer Brian Gould confirmed: “Just to assure you that the NCEL also have concerns re the fitness of the ground and facilities to host such a match on Saturday, with the likelihood of a larger than average crowd in attendance.

“To this end the NCEL are carrying out an inspection of all of the facilities on Tuesday to ascertain that it is fit enough to host the match.

“Both clubs are aware of this and a decision will be made on Tuesday.

“Alternative arrangements are in place should the NCEL Inspectors deem it not fit.”

Worksop Town sit top of the league, five points ahead of fifth-placed Tadcaster who have three games in hand.

The Brewers have beaten Tigers twice this season, once in the league and once in the FA Vase.
