Pavels keeps kidney

The Latvian stopper was seriously hurt in a game two weeks ago and it was feared his internal organs were irreparably damaged.

But club boss Steve Toyne told the Guardian the Leeds based footballer, 17, was out of the woods.

“He’s out of intensive care and on the urology ward now, and his kidney and spleen are okay,” he said.

“He’s still under observation but it’s good news that he’s improving.”

“At first they thought his kidney was so badly damaged it was going to be worthless.”

The club’s first and second teams have signed cards that Toyne was due to take to the youngster as the Guardian went to print.

He added: “It puts football in perspective when things like this happen.”
