Parras set to miss out

WORKSOP Parramore missed out on the chance to win promotion to the NCEL Premier Division on Saturday, as they lost to title tivals Handsworth.

The crunch game at Sandy Lane ended 2-0 to Handsworth, who finished top of the table thanks to the three points.

Goals from Scott Bates on two minutes and 57 minutes consigned Darren Bland’s Parramore to third place in the NCEL Division One table, behind runners-up Glasshoughton.

Since the game the league have revealed that Handsworth have failed a ground grading and will be relegated at the end of the current playing season to a level determined by the Football Association.

Scant consolation to Parramore is top scorer Lee Holmes finishing the season top of the goal charts for the league with 31.

Holmes hit the net 28 times in league games and three times in cup competitions.
