Nottingham Forest blog: 4-5-1 is not working

Normal service was resumed once again, with an exciting defeat at Fulham. The fact of the matter is simple; 4-5-1 is not working!

I disagreed with many who said that Forest bossed the whole of the second period against Derby, but this was very much the case against Fulham.

Definitely a game of two halves and an absolute cracker for the neutral.

The whole ethos of employing a 4-5-1 is to be defensively tight whilst hitting teams on the counter attack.

Managers who do this successfully usually come away with a lot of 1-0 and 2-0 victories over the season. You certainly wouldn’t be conceding more than a goal or two at worst if you know what you are doing!

Although we lost, I still enjoyed my trip to the Cottage, which is my favourite of all the London stadiums.

It is one of the few remaining, old school football grounds in the modern flat-pack era.

So, another three goals conceded under the 4-5-1 regime; there are only six Championship teams that have conceded more goals than Forest. Think about it, could it be any worse at all by playing two up top every week?
