Narrow defeat for the Tigers at Garforth

A former Tier, Mark Simpson, got the game’s first goal on 14 minutes before a well-worked set-piece allowed Conor Higginson to level the game.

Garforth’s second came from an own goal just before the half hour mark.

Worksop’s positive start to the second half didn’t yield another equaliser and Garforth went 3-1 up through Callum Ward’s bundled finish.

Tigers pulled a goal back when subsitute Will Sutton hung one up to the back post late on for Mitch Husbands to head back across and the ball found the net through the Garforth centre half.

Boss Duncan Milligan was encouraged by the display, despite the result.

“We’ve tried to play football today and played the better stuff, we’ve a lot of young lads in the side who didn’t look out of place and Garforth didn’t really cause us many issues but it’s all about what happens in both boxes,” he said.

“We’re certainly not unhappy with the performances, we’ve done everything right and the players gave everything which I think the fans appreciated at the end.

“Where you can’t make mistakes is in the opposition box where it’s going to cost you.

“There’s no point in getting on at any of the lads because that’s not how it works, you’ve got to work every week to limit the amount of mistakes.

“We always felt the game had goals in it and we was delighted with our first goal, it was very clever and sharp.”

Winger James Milner caught a boot to the head and was taken to hospital in a moment that cost the visitors.

“I think it affected the game, he’s an outlet and he terrorises defenders. He was very brave to put his head down there and got caught, he’s gone to A&E to get checked out and if he fails a certain test he’ll be out for at least 14 days,” said Milligan.
