Mansfield Town chief executive officer Carolyn Radford has hit out at the current Premier League set-up and the way it affects the rest of football.

In an interview with Touchline TV she slams the domination of the top league by the same half-dozen sides year after year, their reluctance to use young English players and the fact that big name players are not distributed at clubs throughout the division like they used to be.

“How can a competition be a competition if we know the winners before a ball has even been kicked?” she said.

“The Premier League is described as the greatest show on earth, but for who? It’s financial reward versus equity of competition. It’s a flawed model and impacts on our international team and young players.

“We welcome world class footballers to this country, but they need to be distributed throughout the league and not just the top clubs.”

Radford said that clubs promoted to the Premier League and being expected to compete are being ‘dealt an unplayable hand’.

She highlighted the Championship as the way forward, describing it as ‘exemplary’.

“If you are asked to predict the top four in the Championship, you could pick any of the 24 and be in with a chance,” she said.
