Maltby kids rewarded

MALTBY Juniors Football Club celebrated their season with a presentation day on Saturday at Maltby Progressive Club.

Club secretary Denise Hicks told the Guardian all the club’s players get rewarded for their efforts during the year.

She said: “We don’t do Player of the Year or Man of the Match awards, it’s not in our constitution, but all the players get a trophy at the end of the season.”

“We want to treat them all as equal.”

For the first time the club split their presentation into an afternoon event for younger teams and an evening for the older players.

She added: “It went really well, we had a children’s entertainer for the younger ones and it kept them occupied.”

The club is now looking forward to their annual tournament on 9th and 10th June, when over 100 teams will visit Maltby.

A week after that they will host the Joe Aveling Memorial tournament, in memory of the 16-year-old who died in 2008 following a car crash.

The teenager was a Maltby Juniors player and the club hold the annual event in tribute to him.

Denise said: “There will be an Under 18s and an adult section in that.”
