It had looked like Forest were heading to defeat thanks to Jonathan Parr’s 75th minute strike.

But Trotter struck from close range after Jorge Grant’s shot had been cleared off the line.

It was a deserved point for Forest who bossed large parts of the first half.

Ipswich goalkeeper Dean Gerken kept his side in the game as he denied Liam Trotter and Jamie Ward, before Nelson Oliveira and Mendes wasted further chances.

Those missed opportunities proved costly as Ipswich came hit well on the break through Jonathan Parr.

Forest now travel to Sheffield Wednesday next weekend as they look to bag their first win in seven attempts.

Ryan Mendes fired inches wide from a narrow angle on 12 minutes after Forest caught the visitors on the break.

Dean Gerken pulled off an excellent double save to deny Liam Trotter and then Jamie Ward after a pin-point Mendes pass opened up the defence on 29 minutes .

Oliveira hammered a rising effort straight at Gerken seven minutes later after Mendes’ surging run across the box caused more problems.

It was a poor finish with a low shot either side of the keeper likely to have burst the back of the net,

Mendes found the side netting on 41 minutes, before shooting wide in injury-time as the home side continued to look most likely to break the deadlock.

Ward skied an effort high and wide following good link-up play with Mendes as Forest started the second half brightly.

Dorius De Vries alertly parried away a well hit Freddie Sears strike on 56 minutes as the struggling visitors registered their first effort of the match.

David McGoldrick then saw a goalbound effort from outside the box beaten away by De Vries as the Tractor Boys finally sprung into life.

And that new confidence was rewarded on 75 minutes when sub Jonathan Parr rifled an effort into the top left corner after Forest failed to clear Kevin Bru’s cross.

Sears hit a long range effort wide with 10 minutes to go as Ipswich looked for a vital second.

But it was not be as Liam Trotter rescued a point for Forest in the fifth minute of injury-time.

Jorge Grant’s low shot was cleared off the line and fell invitingly into Trotter’s path who took his chance from five yards.
