Royalty will return to Sandy Lane this summer.
‘King’ Kenny Clark, one of the most beloved former Worksop Town stars, will lead the line in a Legends team on 24th July in a fundraising match.
The Legends XI will take on both the Worksop Town first team and a squad made up of supporters in a round-robin tournament of 45-minute games.
Supporters have each paid for the privilege to face their current and former Tigers heroes and proceeds from the event will be split evenly between the club and a fund set up to help Worksop finance a ground of their own.
Clark, who scored almost 300 goals for Tigers, will be joined in the Legends team by fellow fan favourites Neil Pickering, Linden Whitehead, Steve Johnson, Darren Brookes, Gary Townsend, Kirk Jackson, Ryan Davies and Gary Thorpe.
Other former players have confirmed their participation, with organisers still chasing some high profile names.
It is hoped Paul Mitchell will return to the dugout to take charge of the Legends XI.
The supporters team will be led by player-manager Rich Nelson, with club official Anne Keep acting as assistant manager.
Goalkeeper Adam Valente, who was once on the books at Worksop Town and has played in the local Sunday League for years, will also be involved for the fans.
The match is part of the club’s drive to generate much needed finances.
Volunteers have been working hard to attract members for the new 1861 Club which has been set up to boost club coffers and put aside cash to either purchase the Sandy Lane lease or build a new ground.
Membership costs adults £100 plus a minimum donation of £25 to the ground fund and gives members access to the club’s home league fixtures.
Over 130 members have signed up so far.
Tigers can also now use the clubhouse at the ground to raise money and have appointed a commercial manager, Rachel Wood.
