Jailed footballer to return to his club

A PROFESSIONAL footballer who killed a Retford pensioner in a car crash is expected to return to his football club.

Adam Chapman, 21, of Hillview Crescent, Clarborough, was jailed for two and a half years after he admitted causing death by dangerous driving of 77-year-old Tom Bryan.

The court heard that the Oxford United player had been sending and receiving text messages and emails just before the crash on the A620, North Wheatley in May 2009.

The chairman of Oxford United said Chapman is expected to return to the club when he is released from a young offenders institution on tomorrow (Friday).
