Worksop Town midfielder Jack Broadhead believes it is the right decision for the Tigers to go straight back into playing games after the second national lockdown.

The Tigers returned to footballing activity last week, playing an inter-squad game before drawing 0-0 in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Parkgate FC.

Broadhead admits that going straight back into game situations is the correct way to regain match sharpness ahead of whenever the season will resume.

“It was good to get back and playing games,” said Broadhead. “It was great to get out there and play football again.

“I think everyone would prefer to come and play a game rather than running and stuff, so it was good because it is a different type of fitness.

“You can keep yourself fit at home but playing football is different, with different pressures on different muscles and stuff like that.

“I know the lads have been keeping themselves fit, so thinking about what is best going forward is to just get straight back into games because you don’t want to be rusty and I felt a little bit rusty myself.

“You want to get that rustiness out of the way ready for the league games whenever they start.

“The lads have been missing football, so it is going to be competitive and the lads are going to take it really seriously.”

“It is probably best at this stage because we have had a tough pre-season and we have had a lot of games towards the start of the season, so I think it is just best to get straight back into them.”

Before lockdown began, Broadhead missed the FA Trophy defeat against St Neots Town due to a quad injury.

“The quad is alright now,” he said. “It eased off after a couple of days and after about a week and a half of just doing nothing at all; just resting after the last training session before lockdown.

“After that, I have been just running and getting out on the road and doing some hill runs and stuff like that.

“I have just tried to keep myself fit and I do that naturally anyway, I enjoy keeping myself fit.

“I think it worked out well because I felt alright for the first 60 minutes, but I was lagging a bit in the last 30.”
