In profile: Maltby Juniors Under 10s

Manager Jason Stancill has been involved at the club for three years, thanks to his son, and in our profile piece tells the Guardian about his team, his proudest moments and his hopes for the rest of the campaign.

We caught up with Jason and the team on Sunday at Lilly Hall Road, Maltby.

Name: Jason Stancill.

Sports club: Maltby Juniors.

Day job: Working for DHL.

When did you get involved?

Over three years ago.

Why?

My son started playing for the Under 7s and I started helping out. From there I became the assistant for the Under 8s and then the manager for the Under 10s.

Have you always been involved in football?

I played it as a child but was just watching football when my son wanted to start playing, that’s when I got back into it. I took him down to Maltby Juniors’ soccer school and went from there.

What has been your proudest moment in football?

I just enjoy all of it, to be honest. We got through to the semi-final of a trophy last year, that was probably our best achievement so far. And I qualified as a referee in July, I was proud of that.

What is your team like?

They’re a good set of lads. There’s quite a few jokers in the team but they work hard and try their best.

What are your hopes for this season?

Just to stay in the division if we can, we’re not having the best of seasons but we want to finish strong. Hopefully we can have a good cup run.

Why should parents bring their kids to Maltby Juniors?

There’s a good structure at the club. Gordon Worrall who runs the soccer school has been there years and puts his heart and soul into it. It’s not all about winning, it’s about enjoying playing football and getting kids exercising.
