Imps nick a win at Sandy Lane

TIGERS entertained Lincoln City on Wednesday and it was the visitors who ran out 2-1 winners, with goals from Sam Smith and Phil Bannister.

Leon Mettam got the Worksop goal, his fourth in two outings.

After an even start to the game the Imps took the lead on 11 minutes when Sam Smith headed home at the far post from an Adam Smith corner.

Five minutes later the visitors nearly doubled the lead when Dan Gray met Alan Power’s free-kick but Paul Bastock in the home goal saved his powerful header brilliantly.

Worksop started the second half brightly as Owain Warlow’s trickery set up Bruno Holden whose goal bound effort was blocked by Nick Niclau.

Tigers continued to press and Matt Telling’s through ball found Holden whose low shot was pushed away for a corner by the substitute keeper, Jake Turner.

Adie Hawes headed the resulting corner just over.

It was the visitors though who doubled their lead on 64 minutes, when a slip by Chris Shaw let in substitute Bannister to fire home unmarked from six yards out.

Two minutes later Tigers pulled a goal back when Lee Beeson’s corner was headed back across the goal by Hawes for Mettam to head home.

As both sides started to make a number of substitutions it was Tigers who pushed for an equaliser, their best chance falling in the final minute of the game.

A good run and cross from Beeson was cleared for a corner, and Shaw then headed over at the far post.
